Meet the Team: New Faces at Aurora Avionics

Bringing experience and emerging talent together to power the next generation of avionics

At Aurora Avionics, innovation is driven by people. Our brilliant team is full of curiosity, resilience, and passion for solving the hardest technical challenges. Our newest team members, Borys Ikhsanov and Cameron Fraser, arrive from very different backgrounds, but share a common goal: building the next generation of avionics systems for space.

From decades of hands-on repair engineering to cutting-edge embedded software development, their stories reflect the breadth of talent shaping Auroraโ€™s future.

From โ€œBlack Boxesโ€ to Space Systems

Borys Ikhsanov โ€“ Hardware & Systems Engineer
Borys reaching new heights, on the move

For Borys, engineering has always been about uncovering the unknown.

โ€œI have always been fascinated by solving mysterious โ€˜black boxesโ€™ that only reveal their secrets after deep investigation.โ€

With more than 20 years in repair engineering, Borys has built a career on diagnosing and restoring complex electronic systems. That same mindset, patience, precision, and persistence now underpins his work at Aurora, where he contributes to the development of advanced avionics hardware.

His journey to Scotland is as remarkable as his experience. Originally from Ukraine, Borys relocated with his family following the outbreak of war, undertaking a 1,500 km journey to safety.

โ€œWe travelled about 1500 km over five days, making more repairs along the way than I can count.โ€

That resilience is matched by a deep, lifelong passion for engineering. Even outside of work, Borys continues to repair advanced cameras simply for the challenge.

โ€œUnderstanding how things work and being able to find the right solution remains the key to success.โ€

When heโ€™s not solving technical puzzles, he enjoys cycling and spending time with his family โ€” though engineering is never far away.

โ€œWith an electric drill I can fix almost anything. With an electric drill and a soldering iron โ€” everything.โ€

From Student Rockets to Spacecraft Systems

Cameron Fraser โ€“ Embedded Engineer
Cameron graduating with rocket in hand

Cameronโ€™s path into avionics began not in industry, but in a university rocketry society, where theory quickly turned into hands-on experience.

โ€œI joined the society as I was keen to learn more about electronics and wanted to get experience programming microcontrollers.โ€

That curiosity evolved into a deeper passion as he began developing avionics systems for student rocket launches, setting the foundation for his career in embedded software.

At Aurora, Cameron works on embedded systems that will ultimately operate on real spacecraft โ€” something he finds particularly rewarding.

โ€œGetting to program hardware that will go on spacecraft will always be so exciting.โ€

Drawn by the opportunity to work across hardware, firmware, and software disciplines, he thrives in the startup environment where no two days are the same.

โ€œI like getting to learn more about each oneโ€ฆ and thereโ€™s opportunities to wear multiple hats.โ€

Outside of engineering, Cameron likes to unwind by spending time with his friends. He frequently goes bouldering and enjoys cooking – especially when sharing meals with others.

Building the Future, Together

Borys and Cameron represent two ends of the engineering spectrum โ€” experience and emergence โ€” but together they highlight what makes Aurora Avionics unique.

One brings decades of hands-on problem solving shaped by real-world challenges. The other brings fresh perspective and cutting-edge technical skills developed at the intersection of software and hardware.

Together, they are part of a growing team building avionics systems that will power the next generation of space missions.
