Aurora Avionics is pleased to announce the award of a £525,000 contract with Barcelona-based Pangea Propulsion to supply modular, space-grade avionics systems for the ARCOS aerospike engine. This collaboration highlights Aurora’s role as a leading provider of precision avionics solutions for next-generation European launch vehicles.
Precision Engineering for Advanced Propulsion Systems
The ARCOS aerospike engine represents one of the most technically ambitious propulsion designs in contemporary rocketry. Unlike conventional bell-shaped nozzles, aerospike engines maintain optimal expansion ratios across varying altitudes, improving efficiency from launch through ascent. Delivering avionics systems for such a platform requires rigorous engineering standards, robust design for flight environments, and highly reliable guidance and telemetry capabilities, areas in which Aurora has established proven expertise.
Our avionics systems will provide Pangea Propulsion with precise flight control, real-time telemetry, and integrated sensor data acquisition, enabling the ARCOS engine to achieve its performance objectives safely and predictably.
Adrià Argemí, CEO of Pangea Propulsion, noted:
Aurora Avionics demonstrated an exceptional understanding of the technical requirements for NewSpace systems. Their modular approach and engineering rigor made them the clear choice to support our aerospike program.”

Scaling Capabilities Through Strategic Investment
This contract follows a £500,000 investment led by Kelvin Capital, with support from Gabriel and Scottish Enterprise. These resources have allowed Aurora to expand our engineering team, enhance our testing facilities at the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh, and accelerate the development of our modular avionics systems. Our platforms are flexible, scalable, and compliant with aerospace industry standards, supporting both current and next-generation launch vehicles.
Oren Smith-Carpenter, CEO of Aurora Avionics, said:
“This partnership enables us to apply our modular avionics technology to one of the most innovative propulsion programs in Europe. Our goal is to provide technically robust systems that deliver both performance and reliability for demanding space applications.”
European Leadership in Modular Avionics
Aurora Avionics has rapidly positioned itself as a leader in modular guidance, navigation, and data acquisition systems. Our engineering philosophy emphasizes precision, reliability, and adaptability, providing manufacturers with avionics capable of integrating seamlessly with a wide range of launch vehicles.
This contract represents a key step in Aurora’s vision to set new standards in European space technology. By combining rigorous engineering practices with a modular, scalable approach to avionics, we are delivering solutions that will define the next generation of launch systems.
